A 58-year-old sub-inspector was found dead with a gunshot injury on his neck in the Naini area of Allahabad early on Thursday morning,police said.
Police suspect it to be case of suicide. However,no suicide note was recovered from near Jail Road police outpost where S-I Janardan Prasad Pandeys body was spotted by some women at 6.15 am. The outpost caters to the Naini Central Jail under Naini police station area.
The body of Pandey,a native of Karvi area in Chitrakoot district,was found with a gunshot injury in the neck. Prima facie,it appears to be a case of suicide. However,no suicide note has been recovered. The autopsy has been conducted and the report is awaited, said Circle Officer (Karchhana),Radhey Shyam.
Police officials said that Pandey,who had been promoted to the post of sub-inspector from a head constable,was posted with the Kaushambi police.
He had been deployed for ferrying prisoners from the Kaushambi court to Naini Central Jail. The entire team would usually reach the Naini prison in the evening and leave the next day along with another batch of prisoners,required to be produced before various courts in Kaushambi district,as it does not have its own prison. Last evening too,Pandey had come to Naini under the same routine. The force often stayed at the police outpost,said Inspector (Incharge) Naini,R D Yadav.
