The Uttar Pradesh Police has registered a case of outraging the modesty of a woman against a Sub-inspector and a constable in Pratapgarh district after following allegations from a minor that they misbehaved with her, when she had gone to lodge a complaint of gangrape.

The incident was reported from Aspur Devsara police station and the case was lodged on Friday at the Mahila Thana police station, following directions from Pratapgarh Superintendent of Police,L R Kumar. The SP could not be contacted despite repeated efforts.

The investigation has been entrusted to Circle Officer (Patti),under which Aspur Devsara police station falls.

According to the police, the case has been registered under Sections 354 (outraging the modesty of woman) of the IPC and various sections of the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences Act against the two policemen —- SI Sohan Lal Shukla and constable Aniruddh Singh.

CO (Patti),Munni Lal,said: “The two policemen are being questioned in this regard. No further action has been taken yet.”

The police said that the girl, who claimed to be around 17 years of age,had come to Aspur Devsara police station on October 1 to lodge a complaint of gangrape.

“A case of gangrape, against one named and two unidentified men,has already been registered. The complainant had alleged that she was gangraped by these three men in Eliyani village on September 23. The girl was sent for medical examination. The report was not conclusive. Efforts are on to nab the accused,” said Station Officer (Aspur Devsara),R K Singh Chandel.

Meanwhile, the young girl and her family members approached the SP’s office Friday and alleged that, when she was getting her complaint lodged, the SI and the Constable misbehaved with her. She alleged that the accused wanted to take her into a room on the pretext of taking a look at her wounds. The young girl, however, raised alarm, following which her father insisted that she be questioned in his presence alone.

Police sources, however, maintained that there could be more than one aspect related to the case and,so far, there was little evidence of the alleged offence having taken place.
