Shia cleric Kalbe Jawwad Thursday announced a Shia Maharally on September 6 against “terrorism in Egypt, Libya, Syria, Iraq and especially by Israel against Palestine”.
Jawwad said not just leaders from Uttar Pradesh but from all over India and of different religions will be participating in the rally, which is to be held at the over two century old Bara Imambara in Lucknow.
Jawwad, who has been in the news for his spat with senior cabinet minster Azam Khan over elections to the Central Board of Waqfs (SCBW), said the reports stating that the rally is against a particular person are misleading. “Such a huge rally for such a small person doesn’t make sense,” Jawwad said while addressing a press conference here.
Importantly, the rally will be a show of strength for the Shia community. “There are people who say Shias are so few in number that you won’t be able to see them even with binoculars. Through this rally we will seek to show the strength of the community so that such people know that we aren’t so few in number that they can step on our rights and subject us to atrocities,” Jawwad said.
