Stepping up his opposition to recently appointed Shia Central Board of Waqfs (SCBW) Chairman Syed Waseem Rizvi, Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawwad will meet Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav in the next two days to urge for his removal on corruption charges failing which Jawwad threatened to launch a statewide agitation against the UP government.
“We will be meeting Mulayam Singh Yadav in Delhi. Our protest will intensify if our demands are not met,” Jawwad told The Indian Express.
Shameel Shamsi, who heads the Shia Muslim youth organisation called Hussaini Tigers, has been in touch with Mulayam’s Delhi office for the meeting and confirmed that it will be scheduled in the next two days. “A delegation of Shia clerics will meet Mulayam over waqf issue. Earlier, he had said that we started the agitation without contacting him, this time we do not want him to give any chance,” Shamsi claimed.
“This chairman had resigned on his own and again taken charge. He is facing enquiry for corruption and will tamper the records. We cannot tolerate such a person,” Jawwad stated whose earlier protest after Alvida Namaz in Lucknow resulted in police clash and death of a person.
Jawwad also said the waqf agitation will be made stronger by roping in other clerics. “Waqf is not our property. It is Allah’s property. Why shouldn’t the Maulanas earning in the name of Allah come forward?,” he said, adding, “The agitation will be simultaneously held in every district and our whole community will hit the road.”
Jawwad also has reportedly requested the Anjumans (groups of Shia community) for a social boycott of Rizvi. However, he clarified that he has not personally given any such call but several Anjumans have issued such appeals. “I had only reminded various Anjumans about their call and that they should follow it,” he stated.
A meeting over the waqf issue was held on Sunday at Dargah Hazrat Abbas which was attended by Jawwad and other Shia clerics against Waseem Rizvi.
