The first eunuch MLA of India,Shabnam Mausi, will contest the UP Assembly elections from Kanpur Cantt constituency.

Mausi who had won as an independent candidate from Suhagpur Assembly seat of Shahdol district of Madhya Pradesh in 2000,has decided to enter UP politics under the banner of Rashtriya Viklang Party (RVP).

In 2008 Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections Shabnam Mausi had unsuccessfully contested from Kotma segment of Shahdol on a Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) ticket.

Talking to The Sunday Express over phone from Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh),Mausi said that the RVP had approached her for contesting from Kanpur and she has decided to accept the proposal as her constituency in Shahdol has now become a reserved constituency.

The 50-year-old will soon come to UP for campaigning. “I would fight the election on the issue of development and exploitation of public by the corrupt governments,” said Mausi.

“When I was the MLA,there was little amount of money given under MLA Area Development Fund but now it has been increased and,if elected,I can do better development work for my constituency,” she added. On being asked why she left

Lalu Prasad Yadav’s RJD,Mausi said: “Lalu is a cheater, humko cheat kiya. He did not even come to campaign during MP Assembly elections despite my several requests.”

On Saturday, which was also International Day of People with Disability, the RVP held a press conference in the capital and announced the second list of 11 candidates for the coming UP Assembly elections. The party had earlier announced 42 candidates.

The RVP state president Kinnar Guddan said that the party will field 350 candidates for the 2012 polls, out of which 50 will be eunuchs and 100 disabled persons.

Guddan criticised the Mayawati government for ignoring the disabled people in the state, saying that the government has not sanctioned the budget for disabled people’s pension and had discontinued several schemes for the welfare of disabled persons.
