Set top box: CM seeks extension of deadline

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has requested the central government to extend the deadline for installation of set top boxes in 7 cities of the state for another six months.

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has requested the central government to extend the deadline for installation of set top boxes in 7 cities of the state for another six months. The deadline expires on March 31.

In a letter to Union Minister of State (independent charge) for information and broadcasting,Manish Tiwari,he has also requested for not blocking the analog transmission. As per digitalisation by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting,analog transmission will be blocked in 7 cities of the state — Kanpur,Lucknow,Agra,Varanasi,Ghaziabad,Allahabd and Meerut — after March 31. The transmission will be only through digital addressable system which requires installation of set top box.

CM Akhilesh Yadav in his letter has mentioned that prices of set top boxes are escalating due to their non availability,and also that a law and order situation may arise in the state.
