Her lineage may obviate pursuits more intellectual than film roles, but actress Nandana Sen,daughter of Nobel laureate Amartya Sen,lets you into a family secret: “My father is more interested in films than I am in Economics!”

Sharing some more secrets on her visit to Lucknow to promote diamond jewellery by Raa,she insisted she had “no business sense” so jewellery had to be “more practical and versatile than an investment proposition.” The Harvard graduate (language and creative arts) likes ornaments to blend with the various roles she plays, talking about which she named her involvement in a number of projects.

“As for films, you will see me in a Hollywood film called ‘The Forest’,an action-packed,eco-thriller in which I am a city-slicker chased by three men and a leopard. From among my forthcoming Hindi films, watch me in ‘Rang Rasiya’ based on the life of the great painter Raja Ravi Varma,‘Season’s Greeting’ with Sohail Khan and Tabu,Anubhav Sinha’s political satire ‘Rajdhani Express’ and two other remakes of films by Rabindranath Tagore and Satyajit Ray,” said Sen,who also has a role diagonally opposite promoting a jewellery brand—she is an ambassador for UNICEF.

Apart from acting, her role in films has more been behind the scenes, for she is a full-fledged script writer. She attributes this trait to her parents and grandparents who have all been writers.

“I have scripted telefilms for Canadian channels and have recently sold one for a bio-pic on a famous painter, whose name I would tell you if the contract had not sealed my lips,” said the actress who says ‘no’ more times than ‘yes’ to film offers because “I want to do just my kind of cinema.”
