Keeping in mind the Assembly elections next year, the government plans to complete all the proposed development works by October 2016.
For the purpose, the government has hired Noida-based architect firm, Archohm Consults, which had in the past designed Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav’s several dream projects such as the JP International Centre, Apna Bazar in Saifai, CG City in Lucknow and the Lucknow Cancer Institute among others.

Nearly half-a-dozen government departments have been roped in to undertake major beautification and infrastructural work in Saifai. “We have received the detailed project report (DPR) of nearly Rs 300 crore from Archohm. It has been sent to the departments to prepare their estimates,” Anil Kumar Gupta, Superintendent Engineer, Public Works Department in Etawah, told The Indian Express.
Gupta will be the nodal officer who will coordinate with the various government departments, including PWD, forest, Jal Nigam, BSNL, power corporation and others based on requirements.
Among the major development works that will be undertaken include underground laying of all power and telephone cables and of the entire sewage system and water supply pipelines in the region, Gupta said.
The CM’s affinity with cycling finds a mention here, too, with the proposed construction of a nearly 13 km cycle track, which will have coloured micro surfacing with bitumen on the lines of those in The Netherlands, a country he had visited in the past.
Moreover, roads will be widened, even though Saifai’s all major roads are already four-lane. A 2-km-stretch of canal passing through Saifai will be covered, after which the forest department will work to beautify the area with plants and trees. Artistic footpaths will be laid beside every road which will also boast benches. New Victorian lights will light up the roads in the evening, Gupta said.
“We have fixed deadlines for all these work. All departments will submit their sanctioned estimates as per the DPR by February 28. By March 20-25, we will be in a position to begin the work. Archohm will give the green light to begin the construction on April 2. All projects will be completed by October,” the official said.
For a population of over 7,000, Saifai has developed by leaps and bounds since 1989 when Mulayam first became the chief minister. The village now has 24-hour power supply, well-laid sewage system, concrete roads, an air strip, a medical institute, a nursing and paramedical institute, several colleges and plush guest houses of several government departments. Upcoming projects include a sports university, international cricket stadium and night landing facility at the air strip, which is proposed to be upgraded to an airport.
