Sports Authority of India (SAI),Lucknow drubbed Amritsar XI by 5-0 in the inaugural match of the 30th All India KD Singh Babu Memorial Invitation Prize Money Mens Hockey Tournament at Dhyanchand astro-turf stadium,Lucknow on Thursday.
SAI Lucknow exercised an upper hand from the word go. Its forward M Javed broke the stalemate in the 18th minute of the play. Triveni Prasad consolidated the lead further in the 25th minute. Sunil Kumar Yadav made no mistake in capitalising on a penalty-corner (PC) awarded to SAI Lucknow in the 33rd minute to make the half-time score 3-0.
In the 50th minute Sankalp Radhav scored a goal through a PC in the 50th minute. M Javed netted another goal in the dying moments of the play to pave the way for a 5-0 win for the SAI team. In all,SAI Lucknow was awarded three PCs out of which he was able to make use of two such opportunities while Amritsar XI was awarded one PC.
In the second knock-out stage match,Sports Hostel UP defeated Rajasthan XI,Ajmer by 6-0. The goal-getter on behalf of the victors were Shrish (5th minute; through PC),M Faiz (43rd minute; through PC),Amit Goswami (50th minute),Chandan Singh (52nd minute; through PC),Sangam Singh (54th minute) and Imran Khan (57th minute). In all Sports Hostel UP got ten PCs and it was able to utilise three such opportunities. Rajasthan XI got 1 PC.
Earlier in the day,the seven-day tournament was inaugurated by Secretary Sports (UP) Lalit Varma.
