A group of men armed with lathis broke into a Sarojini Nagar house, attacked four family members who were sleeping in different rooms, killing one and injuring others, before robbing them of their jewellery and making good their escape, police said.

As per a complaint lodged by the family members with the police,at least half-a-dozen men entered their house,a part of which is under construction,at around 2.30 am. They first attacked Ramveer Singh and his wife Sarita who were sleeping on the roof, with sticks. The couple suffered injuries on their heads.

They group moved to the ground floor and attacked Ramveer’s cousin Ranu and his wife Shilpi who were sleeping in a room and later attacked his uncle Shyam Singh and aunt Geeta who were sleeping in another room.

All four were hit on their heads with sticks. However, the robbers did not hurt the four children in the house. They then snatched the jewellery worn by the three women and left the house, after locking it from outside. They had also locked the house of a neighbour,Rani, from outside.

While Ranu and Shyam suffered severe injuries and are admitted at trauma centre of King George Medical University,Geeta died on way to the hospital.

All the injured are residents of Hardoi and had been living in the house of their relative Vishunpal Singh,a property dealer,as caretakers since June. Vishunpal, who was called by Ramveer after the robbers left, reached there with the police.

Police have lodged a case of robbery and murder against unidentified persons on the complaint of Ramveer. Sarojininagar Circle Officer Harendra Kumar said the family members were attacked in a manner similar to that of some criminal tribes that were earlier active in the area. He said they were probing all aspects, including rivalry or enmity.
