Union Home Minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh has reportedly written a letter to Minister of Railways D V Sadananda Gowda to upgrade Gomti Nagar railway station as second railway terminus in order to reduce burden of passengers at Charbagh railway station.

A communiqué issued from the state BJP headquarters on Saturday evening confirmed that Singh has sent a letter to Gowda in this regard.

The home minister has also requested Gowda to begin operation of trains at least for Delhi, Mumbai and Katra (Jammu) from Gomti Nagar via Charbagh within three months.

The letter also requests the railway ministry to develop an approach area for subway at the Charbagh to connect stations of Northern Railways and North Eastern railways. Subway was completed in 2004 but passengers cannot use this due to lack of approach area.

Moreover, Singh has requested for the completion of a link near Aishbagh railway station to connect it directly with Chowk, Daliganj, Lucknow City and Gomti Nagar stations which will facilitate movement of Electrical Multiple Unit trains. This link of 500-metre was approved by the government in 2002 but it remains incomplete.
