In his message on the eve of Independence day, Governor Ram Naik on Sunday urged citizens and politicians “to maintain harmony” keeping in mind the Assembly elections next year. Naik called upon people of the state “to work unitedly for unity and integrity, peace and harmony and also to safeguard the honour of women”.
“In the near future, the state will be going for Assembly elections, hence citizens and political parties should cooperate in maintaining the harmony in the state,” he said.
Greeting the people and paying tribute to martyrs, Naik said: “Martyrs had paved the way to a respectable life and democratic system… Uttar Pradesh played a prominent role in freedom struggle and also provided leadership to the country.”
Maintaining that UP had given nine prime ministers to the country, Naik said it would “be a real tribute to our martyrs and freedom fighters to turn ‘Swaraj’ into ‘Suraaj’”.
