Politics heats up Amethi ahead of Smriti Irani and Rahul Gandhi’s visit

While Smriti Irani is reaching Amethi on Tuesday, and Rahul Gandhi will be in his constituency on May 18.

With both Union Minister Smriti Irani and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi scheduled to visit Amethi in a gap of one week, political temperature is rising in the Lok Sabha constituency even as the people are expecting that some big projects may be announced.

While Irani is reaching Amethi on Tuesday, and Rahul will be in his constituency on May 18. In the past one year after Lok Sabha elections, Rahul has paid four visits to Amethi while Irani has been there once.

A local BJP leader informed that they are expecting Irani to announce educational institutes in the constituency, which Congress has failed to do.

“She has been in constant touch with the constituency and her visit has forced Rahul Gandhi to plan his visit. She would travel about 200 km to cover different blocks on Tuesday,” said Govind Singh, BJP Amethi spokesperson.

Irani is expected to highlight plight of Amethi in over past one decade of Rahul Gandhi being the local MP. With very few girls colleges in Amethi, she is likely to address the issue.

Sources said that Rahul would be raising the issue of farmers’ loss along with development projects that have been sidelined in the constituency including Mega Food Park Project.

Irani had given tough fight to Rahul in the Lok Sabha elections and had drastically brought down his victory margin.
