“We placed barricades and police teams at every crossing through which buses and private vehicles travel to Delhi. Two of them came with heavy bags in search of a bus. When they were asked about what they had kept in the bags, they tried to flee from the spot but we nabbed them,” said Sanjeev Tyagi, SP Rampur.
Sunder Singh and Ompal, both from Uttarakhand’s Udham Singh Nagar, have been booked under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972 and other relevant laws. They were sent to jail on Saturday. The accused told police that the estimated price of the tiger skin in the international market is around Rs 2 crore, and it was their other accomplice who had killed the tiger. They also told police that this wasn’t their first time smuggling tiger skin.
