More than 300 right-wing activists were arrested and former BJP MLA Lallu Singh put under house-arrest Thursday,on the eve of VHPs Sankalp Diwas rally in Ayodhya,which has been banned by the UP government.
DIG (Faizabad Range) B D Paulson said Section 144 has been imposed in Faizabad and the borders of the district have been sealed.
Paulson said a search operation was conducted at offices of VHP and around 80 people were arrested. Another 40,including local office-bearers of the VHP and former Ayodhya MLA Lallu Singh,were put under house-arrest.
Undeterred,VHP said it will meet at Karsewakpuram area of Ayodhya to take a pledge to build temple at the disputed site.
Principal Secretary (Home) Anil Kumar Gupta,DGP Deo Raj Nagar and ADG (Law and Order) Mukul Goel Thursday visited Faizabad and reviewed the administrations preparedness ahead of VHPs programmes.
DIG said police,RAF and PAC have been deployed. While police will not disturb the daily routine of people,anyone coming with a banner or trying to assemble will be taken into custody, he said.
DM Vipin Kumar Dwivedi said circulation of bulk SMSes has been banned in the district.
