A DAY after Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi tried to attract youths in Rampur by claiming that the next government would be a government of the youth, partys student wing National Students Union of India (NSUI) faced defeat on all five posts of the students union at Chaudhary Charan Singh University,Meerut, where elections were held Thursday.
Samajwadi Chatra Sabha, the student wing of Samajwadi Party, grabbed all top three positions with Vikas Kumar as president,Riya Garg as vice-president and Pankaj Kumar as general secretary.
The results, declared Thursday late evening after 70 per cent votes were polled earlier in the day,was a setback for the BJP as Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP),too, lost all the top three posts. ABVP had won these posts in the previous student union elections held in 2012.
In the elections held today for session 2013-14,ABVP candidates were runners-up on the three seats. ABVPs Kartikeya Dubey won as joint secretary while Saurabh Sharma was elected treasurer.
ABVP is the student wing of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Meerut is the home district of BJP state president Laxmikant Bajpai and the party has four MLAs in this district that is known as centre of RSS activities in UP.
Both BJPs youth wing and ABVP are running a campaign in the state these days to attract youths towards partys prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.
