The Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department, along with the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (URSRTC),has plans afoot to start the “hop on and hop off” bus services for tourists in the city. The project, likely to be launched by the end of this month, will allow a tourist to board more than one bus on the same ticket.

“A tourist can conveniently hop off the bus, visit the monument that interests him and take the next bus which is 75 minutes away. The same ticket will be valid for all such buses,” said UPSRTC General Manager (Operations) R P Singh.

Various monuments and heritage buildings, including the Ambedkar Park,Sikandar Bagh,Bada and Chota Imambara,Shaheed Smarak and Residency, will be covered en route.

“Lucknow will be the first city in the state where the service will be launched following which similar services could be started in other places. Around 18 monuments and heritage sites will be covered. The modalities of the project are still being worked out,” added Singh.

Senior officials at the UPSRTC added that a presentation will be made before the chief secretary in the coming week for his approval to the project.

Joint Director of the UP Tourism Department D K Burman, however, said: “We are still discussing the plans and can give a final word only by next week.”
