The tiger whose carcass was found in a canal in Pilibhit on Monday had died of old age. This,according to the postmortem conducted by the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) in Bareilly.
The organs of the animal were intact. We have ruled out the possibility of poaching. It was not a case of drowning either. The tiger had been dead for around two days before its carcass was found, a senior IVRI official said.
The forest officials,meanwhile,continued their search for the Faizabad maneater on Wednesday. But they neither spotted the tiger,nor found its pug marks.
The pug marks of another stray tiger,which was last seen in Azamgarh around a month ago,were found in Amiya Baravan village in Ambedkar Nagar district on Tuesday.
Its moving in the northwest direction and may have already reached Basti, said S K Sharma,Conservator of Forest in Azamgarh.
