Former BSP minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi and two of his relatives have been named in an FIR registered in connection with the murder of a woman in Naini Industrial Area of the district on Wednesday.
The victim,30-year-old Anita Yadav, was the wife of Rajesh Yadav,an accused in a bomb attack on the BSP leader that took place in July 2010. Nandi said the allegations in the FIR were motivated and those naming him were close to the accused in the case.
Superintendent of Police (Crime) A K Pandey said: The FIR has been registered under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. Nandi has also been accused of criminal conspiracy. Apart from Nandi, two of his relatives Kamal Kumar and Anoop have been named, while the other three are unidentified. The FIR has been registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by Ambika Prasad Yadav, father of the victim. The identity of the killers was yet to be ascertained, said Pandey.
The police took the body of Anita Yadav in custody late last night. A post-mortem examination was being conducted on Thursday at Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital here.
Nandi told The Indian Express: This is not the first time people close to the accused in the bomb attack have lodged FIRs naming me and my relatives Kamal and Anoop. Last year too, they got two cases lodged against me,making allegations ranging from loot and dacoity to even kidnapping a woman. But investigations in both the cases revealed absolutely nothing.
Kamal is Nandis maternal aunts son, while Anoop is the former ministers brother-in-law. Kamal is also the complainant in the case registered in connection with the bomb attack that occurred near Nandis residence on July 12,2010. The Indian Express reporter Vijay Pratap Singh and another person were killed in the attack. Nandi was seriously injured.
Samajwadi Party MLA from Gyanpur (Bhadohi) Vijay Mishra is the main accused in the bomb attack case. He was released by the Allahabad High Court on bail last year.
Last month too, said Nandi,Kamal and Anoop were accused by Chhavi Ram Yadav, brother of Rajesh Yadav,of opening fire during a party in George Town area in which a youth was injured.
All such cases have revealed nothing. My family is worried. I have been getting threat calls. But the police do not listen to my complaints. The accused in the bomb attack case either want me dead or behind bars, said Nandi.
Asked whether he had lodged a police complaint in this regard, the former minister said he
had written several letters to the state administration.
Allahabad Range DIG Dr N Ravinder said: If we adopt any method other than registering FIR on the basis of a complaint, our motives would be questioned. If nothing comes out in the investigation, then the matter will be dealt
Anita Yadav,a former pradhan, was shot dead when she was returning after meeting Rajesh, who is lodged in Naini Central Jail,on Wednesday evening. At the time, she was on foot and the assailants had shot her from behind. Her family members and supporters had placed her body on the Allahabad-Mirzapur Road and blocked traffic for more than three hours.
