On a day when BJPs candidate for the Pilibhit Lok Sabha seat Varun Gandhi surrendered before the court in connection with his alleged hate speech, the partys prime ministerial candidate Lal Krishna Advani, who addressed a rally in Maharajganj in east UP,chose not to speak on the issue. The BJP leader instead came out all guns blazing on the Congress-led UPA government.
In his 25-minute speech,Advani did not utter a single word on Varuns arrest or the sea of BJP and Sangh supporters who had descended on Pilibhit and clashed with the police, just hours before the rally began.
In the last five years of UPA rule,India has seen the worst times. We had never seen so many farmers committing suicides and the frequent terrorist attacks in the country. Till today, the UPA government has not done anything to punish the terrorists. Today,we just have one agenda, which is to develop the country and let everyone feel safe, Advani said and urged the people to vote the NDA to power.
