Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who is also state president of the Samajwadi Party, expelled MLA Pramod Kumar Gupta alias LS from the party for six years for his indulgence in “anti-party activities” and “indiscipline” on Friday.

Gupta, who represents Vidhuna seat in Auriayya district,is a relative of SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav’s wife Sadhna Gupta.

Gupta had reportedly submitted his resignation as MLA to Mulayam on Thursday and informed the Chief Minister. He had cited the deteriorating law and order situation in Auraiyya as the reason behind his resignation.

Gupta was in the news last February when his son Abhinav had allegedly slapped a teacher at Amity University. The Chief Minister had intervened in the matter, assuring justice to the teacher.

In a statement,S R S Yadav, state secretary of SP,said,“MLA Pramod Kumar Gupta has been expelled from the party. The decision has been taken by CM Akhilesh Yadav, who is also the state president of the SP.”

He also stated that only

Gupta had been expelled and no action has been taken against any other legislators who had recently criticised the state government on various occasions. “The expulsion order is only for Gupta for his indulgence in anti-party activities and indiscipline,” S R S Yadav stated.

About Gupta’s reported resignation as MLA,S R S Yadav stated,“For resignation from MLA’s post, there is another procedure. We are not concerned with that. He was expelled from the party today.”

Principal Secretary of the Vidhan Sabha Pradeep Dubey said Gupta’s resignation from the Assembly was not received yet.

Earlier in the day,PWD Minister Shivpal Yadav admitted that Gupta was not happy with the party. “He has said something,he thinks something wrong occurred with him. We need to sit down and listen to him,” Shivpal stated.

Gupta had attended a meeting in the Zila Panchayat at Auraiyya on Thursday and later blamed the state government for the poor law and order situation in the district. He claimed he had submitted his resignation over the issue.

During interaction with people there,Gupta reportedly mentioned the neglect in transfers of officials. Recently,Parvesh Rana,in-charge of Vidhuna Kotwali; Mahesh Gupta,Basic Shiksha Adhikari; and R K Gupta, engineer in the power corporation, all of them reported to be close to him,had been transferred.

Besides,Ram Babu Yadav,SP’s district unit president of Auraiyya, who did not share good relations with Gupta, was elevated and appointed Chairman of the Labour Welfare Council with the status of minister of state.
