More arrests to follow

With the arrest of UP’s ex-Family Welfare Minister Babu Singh Kushwaha and BSP MLA Ram Prasad Jaiswal in NRHM scam case in New Delhi this evening,the CBI is also set to arrest BSP MLC Ram Chandra Pradhan,his wife Anita,former Principal Secretary Pradip Shukla,former Director General of Health & Family Welfare R R Bharti,former CMOs of Health and Family Welfare and several other government officials.

With the arrest of UP’s ex-Family Welfare Minister Babu Singh Kushwaha and BSP MLA Ram Prasad Jaiswal in NRHM scam case in New Delhi this evening,the CBI is also set to arrest BSP MLC Ram Chandra Pradhan,his wife Anita,former Principal Secretary (Health) Pradip Shukla,former Director General (DG) of Health & Family Welfare R R Bharti,former CMOs of Health and Family Welfare and several other government officials.

The CBI has made 10 arrests so far,including those of Kushwaha and Jaiswal,in the case of financial irregularities in execution and implementation of NRHM in UP. The CBI has registered 15 cases,which included 13 cases related to irregularities in NRHM across the state and two in Lucknow district.

Ghaziabad-based Surgicoin Private Limited on the basis of forged documents. The materials used in the hospitals were found to be sub-standard.

The rates quoted by Surgicoin and another private firm were also reportedly five times the then market rates. The CBI has pegged the loss at Rs 5.46 crore.

The CBI has so far registered 12 FIRs over irregularities in utilisation of NRHM funds. After Kushwaha and Jaiswal,there are now 10 persons under arrest.

The BJP called Kushwaha’s arrest “selective targeting”. “The BJP will accept the legal course but this kind of targeting is not acceptable,” the party said. Kushwaha had joined the BJP before the polls but his membership was suspended following protests.
