Shubhra Saxena,a 2009 batch IAS officer,is waiting for the Durga Shakti Nagpal episode to end as soon as possible. In a real life “Peepli Live”,electronic news channels have been showing visuals of Saxena in news items related to Nagpal. It began the day a delegation of IAS Association met officiating chief secretary Alok Ranjan. Shubhra was part of the delegation and mistaking her for suspended officer, electronic channels started airing the footage, claiming that Nagpal had come to meet Ranjan. Some even went to the extent of highlighting Shubhra’s face, telling the audience that she is the same officer who took action against the mining mafia.

CM Rahul gandhi?

During a recent surprise visit to Rae Bareli, the Lok Sabha constituency of Congress president Sonia Gandhi,Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav went to a school and asked the students to name the state’s capital. “Delhi”,came the pat reply. As Akhilesh, taken aback, turned towards the officials accompanying him,one of them asked the children,“Do you know who has come to meet you?”. The children replied in unison,“Rahul Gandhi”. Akhilesh left the school laughing, but the suspension order of Basic Shiksha Adhikari was faxed after he reached Lucknow.

Picture perfect

THE political acrimony between Barabanki MP,P L Punia, and Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma is well known. Recently, when Punia, who understands that Beni holds the sway over Kurmi votes in Barabanki, sought an appointment with the ministers, the latter replied,“We will meet after the Lok Sabha elections.” An undeterred Puni, however, erected large hoardings, carrying pictures of Beni. Surprised,Beni’s supporters asked Punia’s office to remove the pictures. “We have received instructions from the high command to use pictures of union ministers. If Beni resigns,we will not use the pictures,” was the reply from Punia’s office.

Task master

On Eid,Mulayam Singh Yadav had a task ready for his brother Shivpal and son Akhilesh. He handed them a list of Muslims whose houses they had to visit. “I will visit some places and you will have to meet the others at their place,” Mulayam stated. The result,on Eid day,Akhilesh and Shivpal were criss-crossing old Lucknow, visiting Muslim clerics.

Register reign

The Rashtriya Lok Dal is a divided house in Lucknow. Party’s state president,Munna Singh Chauhan, and national secretary,Anil Dubey, are responsible for looking after the organisation in Lucknow, but both have far from cordial relations. Chauhan recently put up a notice at the entrance, asking every visitor to enter his name, address, whom he was visiting and the purpose of the visit in a register kept there. Dubey, thinking it was meant to keep a watch on those who came to meet him, opposed but failed to get the register removed because Chauhan,as state president, has power to take final decisions regarding party affairs in the state and the office.

Net gain

Inspired by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, state BJP president Laxmikant Bajpai last week opened his account on Twitter and sent an e-mail to media persons, asking them to follow him. Bajpai’s first tweet was a reaction to the killing of Indian armymen by Pakistani troops in Poonch. Bajpai’s personal assistant carries a tablet and posts his reactions. Party spokesperson Manoj Mishra too has opened a Facebook account where he posts a comment every morning and then sends SMS to everyone to “like” it.
