THE POLICE Sunday rescued a 13-year-old boy in Meerut who was kidnapped 10 days ago and arrested three accused. A joint team of Meerut Police and the Crime Branch carried out the rescue operation and also recovered Rs 23 lakh, which the kidnappers had collected from the boy’s father, a businessman, as part of the ransom.

SSP (Meerut Range) Dinesh Chand Dubey identified the three kidnappers as Tushar Jain, his live-in partner Astha Vishwas and Prateek Jain. Dubey said two others in the group are absconding.

According to the police, Atishay, son of Mayank Jain, was kidnapped from a spot close to his school on February 18. The family had contacted the police when Atishay did not return home from school that afternoon. The father, however, stopped contacting the police after he received a call from the kidnappers who demanded Rs 2 crore for his son’s release. The kidnappers finally agreed on Rs 23 lakh as the ransom amount, which the family paid to them on the Delhi-Jaipur highway Saturday. The police, meanwhile, were keeping a watch.

“When the family stopped contacting us, we put their phone on surveillance,” the SSP said. “Raids are being conducted to arrest the other culprits… We hope to catch them soon,” he added.

While those arrested were living in Gurgaon, the two absconding accused are reportedly residents of Meerut.
