Three car-borne persons,including a girl,shot a doctor in his clinic at Bahsuma police station area of Meerut Tuesday. The police chased the assailants and arrested key accused and the girl from Kithore area of district,said Meerut SSP Deepak Kumar.

The SSP said the arrested accused Arun Chaudhary of Mohammadpur village in Bahsuma had an altercation with Dr Dinesh Chandra Sharma (37) at his clinic Sunday. Chaudhary,an alleged member of jailed gangster Yogesh Bhadaura’s gang,was overpowered by Dr Sharma and some locals and was beaten up on Sunday. To settle score,Chaudhary attacked the doctor today,he said.

While SSP claimed that a land dispute between Dr Sharma and Chaudhary led to the murder,local traders alleged the victim had refused to pay extortion.

Kumar added the incident took place around 11 am when Chaudhary and his associates arrived in a Maruti Zen car. Chaudhary and one of his associates barged into the clinic and fired at Dr Sharma from point blank range causing him bullet injuries on his temple and stomach.

While the assailants escaped in the car,the victim was rushed to a nearby private hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
