Maya blames Centre for ‘backwardness’ in eastern UP

BSP supremo Mayawati on Monday blamed the Centre and state government for the backwardness of eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Addressing her party’s leaders from eastern and central UP,the former chief minister said that she had asked the Centre to provide a special economic package of Rs 80,000 crore during BSP rule,for the development of backward areas of eastern UP,but the Centre’s approach remained “indifferent” and “negative”.

She said later the BSP government decided to implement Ganga Expressway scheme of building 8-lane road from Noida to Ballia on public private partnership model,but the Centre could not provide environmental clearance to the project,“even when it was not required to spend a single paisa on the project”.

She said the Samajwadi Party government in the state had also failed to control the crime and provide electricity to the people. She said various diseases are spreading because of lack of hygiene in the cities and towns.
