A 34-year-old mason, Anil Kumar, committed suicide at his residence in Sarojini Nagar on Monday morning, a month after his wife ended her life in a similar manner, leaving behind a 2-year-old son.
Kumar, who lived in LDA Colony, had worked for Lucknow Airport previously, according to police. His family’s financial condition had deteriorated in recent months.
According to police, his wife Soni (24) had killed herself on July 28 following a quarrel over their financial condition, as the electricity supply to their house had been cut due to non-payment of the bill. A month later, he hanged himself with a rope at around 10 am, police said.
His father Shivprasad had been present at their home, but could not see Kumar.
Sarojini Nagar station officer Sudhir Kumar said no suicide note was recovered from the spot, but the reason for Kumar taking the extreme step was thought to be his “depression”. Kumar had said that the death of his wife and his financial problems had depressed him.
His wife had also not left any suicide note.
Kumar’s aged parents who were living with him have taken the custody of his son, according to police.
