A man murdered his wife on suspicion of having an extramarital affair and buried her body in the courtyard of his house in Mainpuris Bewar locality. Later,he went to the police and confessed to the crime.
The police on Monday arrested Munna Lal Kateria,a farmer, exhumed the body of his wife Sugna Devi (38),and sent it for postmortem.
On Sunday afternoon,Munna met Mainpuri Superintendent of Police Shri Kant Singh and said he had killed his wife and buried her body inside his house. Singh then called the Bewar police and asked them to verify the claim.
The police rushed to the house, dug up the courtyard and found the body, which had injury marks on the head and hands.
The SP said Munna alleged his wife was having an extramarital affair and when he objected, she did not listen to him. Munna also told the SP that his wife was forcing him to sell off his parental land and give her the money.
The police said Munna got suspicious of his wife when he found that she used to talk to someone on mobile phone in his absence. Munna told them that on July 19,when he returned home from the fields,he found his wife talking to someone on the phone. When he questioned her,it led to an argument. Later,in the night he took his two sons Anikesh (6) and Anuj (4) to the terrace and made them sleep there.
Then,he came down and attacked a sleeping Sugna with a spade. After killing her,he dug a pit in the courtyward and buried her. Next morning,he took both his sons to the house of a relative, left them there and returned home.
The police said Munna approached them only when foul smell started emanating from the buried body.
