The Etawah police Friday arrested 50-year-old Basant Lal Yadav for allegedly beating up a 45-year-old woman for refusing to withdraw a rape case filed against his son Soni Yadav (19) who is lodged in jail.

Soni Yadav is accused of raping the woman’s 21-year-old daughter on May 12. Basant Lal was produced before the court that sent him to judicial custody.

Fearing life threat, the woman, who was discharged from district hospital Thursday, has gone to her relative’s house in Agra. The victim, meanwhile, has gone to Ludhiana where her father is employed.

Station Officer of Civil Lines Police Station, Jasbeer Singh said apart from Basant Lal, his son Muneesh and one Rahul are also accused of beating up the woman.

The rape victim was staying in Etawah along with her mother and uncle. Soni Yadav’s house is located a little distance away from her residence.

The medical report of the rape victim is awaited. The police also got her statement recorded before magistrate, on the basis of which Soni was arrested on May 16.
