BJP included former chief minister Kalyan Singh in the list of key speakers for Kanpur rally of party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. But Kalyan had to stop his speech several times. With public showing disinterest actor Anupam Shyam, present on the stage, started waving at the crowd, which responded by raising slogans. Kalyan resumed his speech after a few minutes but had to stop again as a scuffle broke out over packets of drinking water. Party state president Laxmikant Bajpai announce from stage to stop distribution of water till Kalyan completes his speech.
Samajwadi Party (SP) president Mulayam Singh Yadav’s liking for former CM and Congress leader N D Tiwari is well known. Mulayam brought Tiwari from oblivion and accorded him importance in Lucknow. The latest being Tiwari’s 89th birthday which was celebrated with both Mulayam and CM Akhilesh Yadav offering cake to him. Not only this, state government also erected hoardings across Lucknow congratulating Tiwari on his birthday. SP leaders defended that as a former CM,Tiwari deserves the honour but had no answer when asked if similar wishes will be extended to other former CMs as Rajnath Singh,Kalyan Singh and even Mayawati.
Several BJP leaders at Kanpur rally accused the central government and Samajwadi Party government of UP of indulging in Muslim appeasement. Party’s PM candidate Narendra Modi too targeted UPA government for not taking action against Pakistan for killing Indian Army personnel at the border. Party’s cultural cell too played several songs targeting UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on issues of national security. Interestingly, lyrics of these songs were played on the tunes composed by Pakistani singer Attaullah Khan.
Samajwadi Party (SP) leaders are concerned about an account of Mulayam Singh Yadav on Facebook. Though CM Akhilesh Yadav and minister Shivpal Yadav are already on the Facebook, party leaders hardly expected that Mulayam will also turn to social networking sites. Even SP office has asked Mulayam’s office to confirm whether it is genuine account. On the other hand party’s youth workers are quite happy as they are getting quick response to their questions on Mulayam’s account.
In the ongoing excavation by Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) at Dondiya Kheda village in Unnao for hidden gold treasure, the Samajwadi Party (SP) leaders have found Mayawati connection. They claim that ASI has started digging following instruction from Mayawati. As per them, the instructions were given by Ravindra Singh,an IAS officer close to Mayawati who held important posts during previous BSP regime in UP and presently posted as Secretary,Culture for going ahead with excavation.
A remark by Narendra Modi on the excavation being done by ASI in Uanno in search of gold based on sage Shobhan Sarkar’s dream, has annoyed the seer who wrote a letter to the Gujarat CM and challenged him for a debate on the issue. Modi had remarked in Chennai that Government of India should first get all the black money stored in Swiss banks back instead of searching gold on the basis of dream of a sage. Sarkar in his letter has asked Modi what steps he would take if he was Prime Minister and received an information about such hidden treasure. Sarkar also asked why Atal Bihari Vajpayee government did not make efforts to get back the black money.
BJP MLA from Arya Nagar Salil Vishnoi and Maharajpur MLA Satish Mahana (both Assembly constituencies in Kanpur districts) found the Kanpur rally the best opportunity to make a claim for party’s ticket for Lok Sabha election from Kanpur. While supporters of Mahana were holding flags and wearing caps displaying his name,Vishnoi distributed booklets the content of which was the political profile of Vishnoi. He had also printed a profile of Narendra Modi in the booklet. Both the MLAs found the event as an opportunity because Modi with state in-charge Amit Shah and party national president Rajnath Singh were present in the rally.
Catching ’em young
In his speech before distributing free laptops to the students at Jauhar University in Rampur on Saturday,Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav appealed the gathering to vote in favour of SP in the Lok Sabha elections. Mulayam also threw questions at nearly 9,000 students in the gathering and asked whether they will cast their vote in favour of SP or not. While asking that question and making to appeal to vote,Mulayam probably forgot that these students were only XII class passed and hardly any of them would have their names in the electoral roll of Election Commission.
