The Lucknow University has decided to quash the system of temporary affiliation from the next session. Permanent affiliation to the university will also be a tough task for the degree colleges as the executive committee has decided to strictly scan colleges and check whether they fulfill all the required norms.

“Till date, temporary affiliation was provided to various colleges with the assurance that these colleges will meet the necessary requirements within the academic session,” said GP Tripathi,Registrar.

“But the colleges were unable to comply with the affiliation norms within the stipulated period. This is why the decision has been taken to stop such provisional affiliation,” he added.

Not only has the university decided to stop any new temporary affiliations,it has also asked all colleges having temporary affiliation at present to meet the norms within the academic session of 2009-10,failing which their affiliation will be cancelled.

“Most of the BBA and BCA courses in various colleges are temporarily affiliated because UGC NET qualified teachers for these courses are generally unavailable and this is one of the norms for affiliation,” said Maulindu Mishra, president of Lucknow University Associated Colleges’ Teachers’ Association.

More than half the colleges affiliated to the University have temporary affiliated courses. In a few colleges, infrastructure like science labs, computer labs and even sitting arrangement for students as well as staff support like number of faculty members does not match the required norms for affiliation.
