Lucknow University’s newly constituted anti-harassment cell for girl students,in its report on the sexual harassment allegations of a first-year management student last Wednesday, has recommended counselling for both the girls involved in the incident.

The MBA student had alleged sexual harassment by her roommate and her friends in the girls’ hostel. “The committee has concluded that there was no ragging as all the girls are in their first semester. It has also concluded, after talking to the complainant, her parents and other witnesses, that the accusation of “sexual harassment” was made out of misunderstanding and anger and that the accused and the complainant were friends before the incident,” LU proctor Prof Manoj Dixit said.

The committee also concluded that the issue arose out of cultural and social differences and the inability of the complainant to adjust with her surroundings.

The committee has recommended that necessary action may be initiated at hostel provost level,“since it is a case of discipline.” Hostel Provost Dr Amita Kanaujia said as per the hostel rules, the students’ hostel enrolment should be cancelled. “However,we will take a final decision on Wednesday after meeting with the parents of both the girls,” Kanaujia said.

Earlier, another committee, constituted shortly after the allegations, had also concluded that there was no sexual harassment.
