Lok Sabha polls: SP candidate for Sitapur seat changed

The Samajwadi Party (SP) has changed its candidate for Sitapur parliamentary seat by fielding recent entrant Anil Verma and replacing Mahendra Verma on Monday.

The Samajwadi Party (SP) has changed its candidate for Sitapur parliamentary seat by fielding recent entrant Anil Verma and replacing Mahendra Verma on Monday. Earlier in the evening,SP’s national general secretary Ramgopal Yadav had informed newsmen that Mahendra Verma has been replaced by Narendra Verma,who is a minister of state. Later,after an hour,the party office informed that the ticket has been given to Anil Verma. Former MLA Anil Verma had rejoined SP last Saturday. So far SP has declared 72 candidates in the state. Sources said more changes will be effected in the coming days.

NRI found dead in Hazratganj

A 55-year-old NRI was found dead at his residence under mysterious circumstances in Hazratganj area on Monday morning. Lucknow police spokesperson Alok Kumar Pathak said Shivnandan Duncan George Khan,who worked with an NGO involved with HIV patients,stayed at Gulzar Colony with his foster son Ravindra Kumar. Ravindra informed the police after Khan did not open the door of his room. A police official said they suspected that Khan consumed poison to commit suicide but were waiting for the post-mortem report to reach any conclusion. Khan’s family stays in London while he had been working for the NGO for the past 12 years,they added.
