With the arrest of one Chandra Shekhar (28),the Lucknow police claimed to have solved the abduction case of Class III student Gautam. He was kidnapped from his home in Hussainganj on Thursday afternoon.
Shekhar was arrested from Mahanagar on Thursday evening. Thereafter, the police rescued Gautam from Hazratganj after interrogating the accused.
Shekhar,a resident of Ballia, was working at Gautams father Kashi Rams shop for the last six years. Kashi Ram is a resident of Charbagh and runs a shop in Alambagh.
On Thursday evening,he lodged a complaint with the Hussainganj police station, stating that his son had been kidnapped from home and the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of Rs 2 lakh. A kidnapper had called him twice and asked him to bring the ransom money to a spot near the Mahanagar flyover.
The police traced the calls and found that they were made from a public telephone booth in Narhi and Mahanagar. The plainclothes team went with Kashi Ram to the designated place. Recognising the police team,Shekhar tried to escape but was caught.
During interrogation,Shekhar said on Thursday, around 4 pm,he had picked Gautam from his home on the pretext of watching a movie. He first took him to Sudarshan theatre followed by Capital theatre and later to Sahu theatre.
He told us that in between the film,he would leave the theatre and make ransom calls to Gautams father. Around 10.50 pm,he left the Sahu theatre with Gautam, said BR Saroj,in-charge of Hussainganj police station. Shekhar asked Gautam to stay outside the Sahu theatre and left for Mahangar to collect the money. When he told us that the boy was still there,we went to the site and rescued him, he added.
Shekhar also told the police that when he had called up the second time,Gautams mother Sangeeta had identified his voice.
