Dr Zakir Hussain Trust, run by External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and his wife Louise, has filed an application before the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court requesting for transfer of a public interest litigation against the trust to Allahabad.

The PIL seeks lodging of an FIR against the trust for alleged embezzlement of government funds, sanctioned by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, for providing assistance to disabled persons during 2009-10.

Petitioner Nutan Thakur said that the bench, comprising Justices Uma Nath Singh and Dr Satish Chandra, had ordered for serving notice to the trust by hand while hearing the petition on February 21. The trust was summoned on the next hearing, fixed for March 7.

Thakur said the state coordinator of Dr Zakir Hussain Trust Mohammad Kaunain Hussain filed an application on Tuesday, requesting the court to transfer the petition to Allahabad. Hussain stated that another public interest litigation against the trust had been filed by a journalist,Raju Parulkar,in Allahabad, therefore the petition in Lucknow should also be transferred to Allahabad.

Thakur said she had filed an objection before the court opposing the transfer application on the ground that the petition in the Lucknow bench was filed by her before Raju Parulkar and that the prayer made by him is different from her writ petition.

She said the matter shall be put up before Chief Justice Shiva Kirti Singh at the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High on Friday.
