Even as Mayawati is scheduled to address a rally in Punjab’s Nawanshahr on March 15, the birth anniversary of BSP founder Kanshi Ram, the party leaders and workers from across Uttar Pradesh will gather at Lucknow’s Kanshi Ram Smarak Sthal to pay their tributes to the Dalit icon.

The BSP chief is unlikely to make it to Lucknow on the day owing to her schedule in Nawanshahr, about 50 km from Kanshi Ram’s birthplace of Pirthipur Bunga village in Rupnagar district, from where she is expected to travel to Delhi to attend Parliament session. Despite her likely absence, the party will mark its founder’s birth anniversary through a big programme in Lucknow.

Party’s state president Ram Achal Rajbhar said there was no confirmation on Mayawati attending the event but senior party leaders, MLAs, MLCs and workers will be in Lucknow. He claimed that at least one bus carrying party workers from each of the 403 Assembly constituencies in the state will reach VIP Road.
