A class 11 student of Delhi Public School in Kanpur allegedly attempted suicide last Saturday by consuming dangerous substance and slashing his hands. His condition is reported to be stable.
Mohammad Arsh’s (17) family claimed that he was being harassed at school by his teachers. The boy allegedly attempted suicide at his relative’s house at Swaroop Nagar locality in Kanpur city.
“We are from Fatehpur and Arsh was staying at his aunt’s place for his studies. At around 8.30 pm he had called me and asked me to take care of myself then disconnected. I called my sister and asked her to see if he was fine. She found his room locked from inside. They broke in to find that he had consumed sleeping pills and phenyl and had also slashed his wrist with a blade,” said Nazrana Begum.
She said he was rushed to a private hospital where doctors found a note in his pocket in which he had alleged that he was harassed by teachers at his school and named four of them. The family lodged an FIR against the four teachers.
Investigating Officer (IO) in the case, sub-inspector Rakesh Bahadur Singh, said Arsh had a habit of missing his classes.
“When I talked to the teachers they told me that from he had been absent from classes for more than half the time during classes from July to September,” said Singh. He added that he will record the boy’s statement as soon as doctors declared him fit.
Nazrana alleged that Arsh had been “humiliated” earlier and she had raised the issue with the school. “The teachers denied everything,” she claimed.
