Denying allegations that law and order situation in UP had gone out of hand, Chief Secretary (Home) Rakesh Bahadur said on Friday the Assembly had approved Rs 12,400 crore to modernise state police.
Addressing a press conference after a meeting with officers from the administration and the police, Bahadur said: “Law and order is a continuous process and district magistrates and police superintendents are doing their work.” He added that the modernisation process was in progress. “A sum of Rs 12,400 crore has been approved by the Assembly for modernising the state police force,” he said. The home secretary further said they had sought help from the Centre for the purpose. Bahadur also said the families of policemen who died on duty would be looked after. Director General of Police A L Banerjee said steps would be taken to ensure communal harmony, especially during the upcoming festival season.
