‘HIL instilled confidence in me’

The Hockey India League (HIL) organised January-February this year has gone a long way in instilling confidence in the young Indian talent.

Sports Hostel Lucknow player Imran Khan who arrived in the state capital on Thursday after playing for the Indian junior men’s team in the 3rd Sultan of Johar Cup played at Malaysia in which India emerged champions is confidence personified. It was Imran’s first international tournament abroad.

Before this,the only internationallevel exposure Imran had got was the HIL held in India.

Talking to The Indian Express,a chirpy Imran,18,said,”I am satisfied with my performance in the Johar Cup. I scored a goal against Pakistan and was instrumental in two more goals.

“I had played in junior nationals thrice and in the senior nationals twice. I got to know my real potential when I played in the HIL. It instilled a lot of confidence in me. Playing with renowned international players both from India and abroad and even watching them play during the HIL was a great learning experience for us. I remember I was delighted when I netted a goal for my team-Delhi Waveriders.”

NATIONAL CAMP NEXT

After a short visit to his home at Allahabad,Imran will be reaching Delhi to join the junior national camp on October 8. “We will leave no stone unturned to make our presence felt in the Junior World Cup to be held later this year,” he further added. Amir’s coach at Lucknow hostel,RK Sharma,said that he was happy with the performance of his trainee. “I am sure that he will continue to work hard and do India proud at the Junior World Cup. He has all the potential to rise high in the game,” Sharma said.
