A film to ensure you ‘smile your way through exams’

If you are one of the lakhs of students appearing for the Board examinations and feeling the stress, you must have missed seeing this film.

Titled ‘Smile Your Way Through Exams’,a nine-minute film has been loaded by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on its website http://www.cbse.nic.in.

Full of visuals in answer to anxiety and study-related stress, the film stresses doing simple things like talking to parents, playing games and gardening to drive away exam blues. Opening with visuals of students preparing for examinations, anxiety writ large on their faces, the film advises students to resort to yoga to counter nervousness. They share various feelings and conditions, like lack of concentration, sleeplessness, muscle tension and bouts of crying, which they go through during examinations.

As the movie progresses,it gives handy tips to students on how to handle the pressure of studies. These include practising yoga,deep-breathing exercises and meditation.

Apart from students, the film also has a message for parents. “The film advises parents not to mount pressure on children and instead set realistic goals for them,” says Rina Singh, principal of a CBSE school.

Vouching that the movie does have an impact, she says the Board has also directed schools to show the film to students appearing for the Board.

“It’s a good gesture on part of the board and I think it will definitely spread the message across,” says Rina.

Interestingly, the CBSE has also loaded a document ‘Smile Your Way Through Exams’ on its website.

“The film and document is prepared under the guidance of psychiatrists, counsellors, teachers and doctors in order to help parents and students overcome anxiety and fear,” says CBSE public relations officer Rama Sharma.
