Allahabad High Court Saturday relaxed the ban imposed on the immersion of idols in rivers Ganga and Yamuna for this year and refused to extend the time frame any further. It has also sought a detailed plan from authorities for immersion at places other than these rivers.
The court allowed the relaxation of the ban after hearing an application by the District Magistrate.
Hearing the matter in connection with the PIL related to pollution in Ganga,a division bench comprising Justices Arun Tandon and Ashok Bhushan said: We are of the view the district administration be permitted to carry out programme of routes for immersion of idols for different puja committees and ensure immersion takes place at a new site.
The court added the eco-friendly norms,as mentioned in its order passed in 2012,should be followed and directed authorities to ensure no polythene is used.
