Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has accepted the Harvard University invitation to make a presentation on how the state government organised the 55-day religious congregation during Kumbh,which attracted millions of people from India and around the world,and went off smoothly.
The chief minister will speak at the university campus on April 25. An eight-member delegation is likely to leave for US on April 22 and return to Lucknow on April 27.
Members in the delegation will be Urban Development Minister Azam Khan,Protocol Minister Abhishek Mishra,CMs consultant Amod Kumar,Allahabad Divisional Commissioner Devesh Chaturvedi,Mela Officer Mani Prasad Mishra,IG of Allahabad zone Alok Sharma and Special Secretary in the Urban Development Department S P Singh.
The state government is preparing a power-point presentation of international standards about the significance of Kumbh mela and the challenges it faced in managing the event which lasted from January 14 to March 10. Around nine crore people had taken bath at Sangam during the mela,which is considered to be the largest religious gathering on the earth.
Chief Secretary Jawed Usmani has directed different departments which were involved in management of Kumbh mela to prepare presentations of the work they did in the mela. The Allahabad Divisional Commissioner has been directed to compile these presentations and prepare a common detailed presentation and submit that to the Urban Development Department by April 15.
Usmani has directed the officials to display the ancient history of Kumbh,comparison of Kumbh mela 2013 with Kumbh melas held in the past and photographs of important events of the Mela.
The power-point presentation will highlight the experiences of Kumbh mela 2013 and help the officials in organising such mega events in future, said C B Paliwal,Principal Secretary of Urban Development.
Azam Khan had informed the UP Assembly in the budget session that Harvard University had invited Akhilesh Yadav and him to speak on Kumbh mela.
A 50-member multi-disciplinary team,including faculty and student researchers from Harvard University had travelled to Allahabad in January to document and analyse the processes involved in the successful Kumbh mela.
Mela Officer Mani Prasad Mishra said that the university team had studied various aspects of Kumbh,like infrastructure developed by various departments,security and deployment of manpower and overall management.
