The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday issued orders to release fresh tender for procurement of laptops with significant changes in the earlier document to ease the process. The fresh tender would be floated a fortnight after government failed to get a single response from companies till the last date on October 1. Now,the last day to submit the fresh-tender document has been fixed on November 19.
One of the major changes is the reduction in estimated total number of laptops, which was 17.98 lakh earlier but has been reduced to 15 lakh laptops in the fresh tender document. Moreover,in order to ensure that the supply of laptops is not affected due to shortage of processors, this time, the government has decided to ask for two samples of laptops from the companies instead of one.
Sources inform that the idea is that the interested companies would give one sample laptop with Intel Processor and another laptop with Advanced Micro Devices processor called (AMD processor). The decision to ask for two samples was taken after discussion with the officials involved with the distribution of laptops in Tamil Nadu, where similar procedure was adopted.
When asked about the reason behind changing the total number of laptops for procurement,a senior officer informed,Earlier, the figures were estimated but now the latest figure of 15 lakh laptops is based on the information received by Secondary Education Department from different districts. However,in order to keep the flexibility as per the requirement,it would be mentioned in the tender document that the actual figures can be 20 per cent plus or minus the 15 lakh figure.
