The state government on Monday got two more weeks to file a compliance report on the progress of recruitment process at the level of inspectors and sub-inspectors (SIs). The court has fixed July 30 as the next date of hearing.

In its previous order on May 1,the division bench, led by Justice Amar Saran, had asked the state government to inform it about the progress of recruitment of inspectors and SIs by July 16.

Citing a government order of March 15,the court had questioned as to how the former could stall the recruitment process when there were huge vacancies at the Inspector and SI level. The court had also given the state government 14 days and “not any more” to resume the recruitment process.

Mukhtar Alam, counsel for petitioner Mohammad Qasim, who had sought reforms in the state police framework, said counter-affidavits were filed by some of the respondents.
