In what could spell fresh trouble for former chairman of Medical Council of India (MCI),Ketan Desai, the CBI has filed another chargesheet against him for allegedly allowing intake of students in MBBS course in a private medical college in violation of norms. The chargesheet was filed before a special CBI court in Lucknow on Friday.

In its chargesheet, the agency alleged that Desai along with Suresh C Shah, the then Additional Inspector of MCI,entered into a criminal conspiracy with top officials of Ram Murti Smarak Institute of Medical Sciences in Bareilly to allow the medical college to admit fifth batch of MBBS students despite loopholes in infrastructure.

The CBI alleged that in criminal conspiracy with the college chairman Dev Murti, director Aditya Murti and dean V K Shrotiya,Desai influenced Shah to submit a favourable report on the basis of which the college got nod of the central government to admit fresh batch of MBBS students despite glaring loopholes in its functioning.

It said the conspiracy has been corroborated by Shah before the magistrate under section 164 of the CrPC. The CBI alleged that the college chairman dishonestly issued Form 16 even in cases of those doctors who were not full-time faculty members in the college. The chargesheet alleged that the members in whose name these forms were issued were not aware of it.
