Two groups, one from Kilauni and another from adjacent Kisauli village, laid claim to the land. “Both groups occupied big portion of this land and have sown wheat. The groups have been at loggerhead over the same issue in the past too but no one had died then,” said Bikram Singh, resident of Kisauni.

The two groups had a confrontation on Friday too but the issue did not escalate. On Saturday morning, both groups gathered at the place again and this time matters went out of hand. Shots were fired and by the time police arrived at the scene, five people had been killed.
