Former Samajwadi Party MLA Anar Singh Diwakar was found dead inside a hotel room in Etah on Sunday morning.
The police claimed Anar Singh (55) had allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his licensed revolver. They backed their claim with a two-page suicide note that they recovered from a hotel staff. The victim’s family, however, denied the police’s theory and claimed that he was shot dead. No FIR has been lodged so far.
Superintendent of Police, Etah, Surendra Kumar Verma said that in the suicide note the former MLA had accused his four Delhi-based business partners of duping him and fraudulently taking his signature to get loan from a nationalised bank in Delhi against his property in Kasganj district.
Verma added that as per the suicide note, the fraud was worth Rs 12 crore, which will now be probed. Victim claimed in the suicide note that he came to know about the fraud after receiving recovery notice from the bank, said the SP.
Anar Singh was a resident of village Ranamau in Kasganj, neighbouring district of Etah. His family, including children, are settled in Delhi. They reached Kasganj after coming to know about the incident.
Postmortem has been conducted and body has been handed over to the family.
Additional SP, Etah, V S Yadav said that in the suicide note the victim also gave several other details about how he gave a hefty sun of money to a few people and now they were not ready to return it to him. He added that there is no confusion that former MLA had committed suicide.
The police said, FIR could be registered against people named in the suicide note only after the inquiry. Yadav added that a case would be lodged against the victim’s partners after the inquiry.
Anar Singh had won the 2002 assembly election on Samajwadi Party ticket from Jalesar assembly constituency in Etah. On Saturday, the victim had reached Etah from Delhi and took a room at Shikar hotel located in Kotwali police station area.
Acting in-charge of Kotwali police station, senior-sub inspector R S Maurya said in the morning hotel staff informed the police control room that Anar Singh had been found dead inside his room.
The police rushed to the spot and found the body lying on the bed in a pool of blood. Room was not locked from inside. Victim’s licensed revolver was found near the body. Body was sent for postmortem. The hotel staff told the police that at around 6.00 am former MLA asked for tea which was provided to him. They claimed that after receiving tea, the former MLA did not come out of the room. They also denied to have heard sound of any gunshot.
Maurya added that during questioning one of the hotel staff gave a suicide note reportedly written by the victim. The staff said that the former MLA had asked him to handover the letter to Akeel, pradhan of village Ranamau, when visits the hotel.
Meanwhile, the victim’s family denied the allegation that the former MLA had committed suicide. Victim’s son Mohit Mathur said, they would lodge the murder case into the death of his father claiming that he was killed.
