To develop a two-way communication with the voters and collect feedback on violation of model code of conduct by political parties, the Chief Electoral Office has set up a communication centre at Lucknow headquarters. Similar communication centres are being set up at district headquarters on the directives of the Election Commission.
Election staff at communication centres of district headquarters will contact local persons randomly daily and collect their feedback on poll environment, said Umesh Sinha,Chief Electoral Officer,UP.
They will inform us if anybody was trying to influence voters by distributing liquor, gifts and throwing lunch or dinner parties, CEO said.
Sinha said that every telephonic conversation between the election staff and these local persons would be recorded. He said communication centres would become functional in all districts by the end of this week.
Addressing the media persons on Thursday, the CEO said about 4.5 crore unaccounted cash was seized at different places in last 10 days.
The link of that unaccounted cash with any political party has not been established so far. But it is suspected the money was for elections, Sinha said.
Sinha said 359 block development officers (BDO) have been transferred on the recommendation of the election commission. These BDO were posted at their current locations for over three years.
Sinha said Chief Election Commissioner will be on his two-day visit to the state from Friday to review the poll preparations.
