The Election Commission has sought a report from the Varanasi district administration in connection with the alleged violation of the model code of conduct by Congress candidate Rajesh Mishra.

The Congress Party candidate had allegedly distributed money among the people injured in the violence in the city on the day of Holi.

Confirming this, the Chief Electoral Officer A K Bishnoi said the EC has made it clear that no minister can call on any officer associated with election work during his visit to any district. The officers,Bishnoi said, include DMs,SPs,COs and additional DMs.

The commission has also made it clear that a polling agent must be a voter of the polling station concerned. “Besides,he must produce proper identification proof for his appointment as the polling agent,” the CEO said.

Moreover, the Commission has asked candidates to provide personal details like telephone numbers and address to the state election office. “We want to share this information with the public and will put it in public domain,” Bishnoi said.
