EC declares 44 districts in state as sensitive

Ahead of the Assembly polls in the state,about 44 districts in Uttar Pradesh have been reported to be sensitive by the Election Commission of India due to different reasons.

Ahead of the Assembly polls in the state,about 44 districts in Uttar Pradesh have been reported to be sensitive by the Election Commission of India (ECI) due to different reasons.

According to the reports sent from all the 75 districts by District Election Officers to Chief Electoral Office (CEO) as part of the pre-poll review conducted recently by Chief Election Commissioner SY Qureshi,around 18 districts are politically sensitive,10 districts communally sensitive,four are sensitive following criminal activities,four for Maoist activities and two for activeness of dacoits in the area.

Many of the districts have also demanded additional security forces during the elections.

UP Chief Electoral Officer Umesh Sinha said,“This is preliminary report received from the districts. Now,Election Commission will assess the sensitivity at the level of Assembly constituency and accordingly requirement of security forces would be made available.”

The districts reported highly sensitivity include Aligarh,Mainpuri,Allahabad,Kaushambi,Basti,Bahraich,Kheri,Panchsheel Nagar,Baghpat,Mirzapur and Moradabad.

As per the report,districts with politically sensitivity are Firozabad,Aligarh,Allahabad,Kaushambi,Balia,Basti,Siddharth Nagar,Ambedkar Nagar,Faizabad,Deoria,Auraiya,Ramabai Nagar,Hardoi,Lucknow,Sant Ravidas Nagar,Jyotiba Phule Nagar,Rampur and Muzaffarnagar.

These districts are politically sensitive as influential candidates and senior leaders of various political parties contest from the constituencies there.

Allahabad,Kaushambi,Mau,Basti,Sant Kabir Nagar,Faizabad,Deoria,Gorakhpur,Moradabad,Muzaffarnagar are Prabuddh Nagar are communally sensitive. Panchsheel Nagar,Mau and Firozabad are sensitive because of criminal activities.

DEO of Mathura has reported the district to be sensitive because of its being a religious place and the recent terror activities. Another reason of concern is that Mathura is connected with Haryana and Rajasthan states and anti-social elements may enter the district at the time of election.

Aligarh and Koil constituencies in Aligarh district have been reported to be hyper-sensitive. Sensitivity of villages of Tappal has increased following land acquisition issue. Pratapgarh has been reported highly sensitive in view of law and order. Balia is sensitive due to poverty and feudalistic society.

In Sant Kabir Nagar and Auraiya,security forces are not sufficient in number. Kidnapping cases are an issue of concern in Ramabai Nagar.

Banda bordering Madhya Pradesh is sensitive as inter-state dacoit gangs operate in the area. Similarly,Chitrakoot is also dacoit-affected area.

Bahraich,Maharajganj,Kushinagar,Kheri,Balrampur,Shrawati are sensitive as these are located at Indo-Nepal border. About 24 polling stations in Balrampur are sensitive.

Naxal-affected Mirzapur district has demanded at least 9 companies of paramilitary force during elections. Sonbhadra,Bahraich and Ghazipur are also reported to be naxal-affected.

Sant Ravidas Nagar is affected by caste politics while Bulandshahr district administration has claimed the district of being sensitive on the grounds of land mafia and caste politics.
